A contemporary family home by the coast

A whitewashed table setting captures the essence of the relaxed beachy style of this home. Outdoor living has always been a priority for the couple and their children. Alfresco entertaining on the covered deck is a relaxed affair with picturesque views.

Serene water views set the tone in the living area, where a ‘Delta Storage’ modular sofa from King Furniture in ‘Tango Custard Apple’ fabric, forms the cosy foundation for an inviting space. The low ceilings in the cottage made it not only cramped but dangerous, with anyone over six-foot tall routinely smacking their head. Designer Torren Bell transformed the space by raising the ceilings. 

The dining area has been given nostalgic charm with Thonet ‘No. 14 Vienna’ bentwood chairs gathered around a timber table.

Polyurethane-coated cabinetry in Wattyl Orchid with a satin finish by Seaside Cabinets keep the space streamlined. One of the family’s  favourite places in the house is the breakfast bar, topped with Quantum Quartz in Luna White.

The open ensuite, with a frosted glass screen blocking off the shower, provides instant resort-style appeal. The mirror – above the vanity made by Seaside Cabinets – has become a feature, reflecting the water view.

The children’s bathroom is kept neat and tidy with twin vanities in Dulux White on White, and limestone tiles from Mirror Ceramics that hide dirt. A Kado ‘Lure’ freestanding bath from Reece is a central fixture.

Interior designer Donna Burrell of Liquid Colour Design Studio helped put together this dramatic look, with a woven grass wallpaper-clad feature wall and charcoal Cavalier Bremworth carpet. Textured and patterned bedlinen adds interest – try Bianca Lorenne for similar. 

After seven years without one, homeowners took to the decoration of the laundry with much excitement. One wall was painted in Dulux Great Void and disguised the ironing board cupboard with a custom decal from The Wall Sticker Company, which lists favourite spots from their time spent living in New York. Completely in love with their laundry baskets, homeowners asked Seaside Cabinets to make custom built cupboards to their specifications.
